Kent, Joseph (1779–1837) U.S. representative, governor, senator; born in Calverty County, Md. A congressman (Fed., Md.; 1811–15, 1819–26), then Republican governor (1826–29), and senator (1833–37), he raised money for the Chesapeake and Ohio canal and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.
