Kerényi, Jenő
Born Nov. 20, 1908, in Budapest. Hungarian sculptor. Honored Artist of the Hungarian People’s Republic. Kerényi studied at the Academy of Arts in Budapest from 1931 to 1937. His works, which are decorative monumental sculptures, include the monument to the Soviet truce envoy Ostapenko in Budapest (1951), the sculptural group The Demonstrators (1953), and the statue Hygeia at the pharmaceutical institute building in Veszprém—all three are bronze. Kerényi’s works are marked by vital and dynamic expression, which is achieved by the spatial arrangement of the plastic forms and by the roughness and irregularity of the surface. These qualities preserve the feeling of the modeling. Kerényi has been awarded the Kossuth Prize. REFERENCESvetlov, I. Iene Keren’i Moscow, 1968.Want to thank TFD for its existence?
