Khamrakul Tursunkulov

Tursunkulov, Khamrakul 

Born Feb. 29 (Mar. 12), 1892, in the village of Vuadil’, in what is now Fergana Raion, Fergana Oblast, Uzbek SSR; died Aug. 9, 1965, in Iangiiul’ Raion, Tashkent Oblast. An organizer of kolkhoz production. Three times Hero of Socialist Labor (1948, 1951, and 1957). Honorary Member of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the Uzbek SSR (1957). Member of the CPSU from 1945.

The son of a peasant, Tursunkulov between 1918 and 1921 took part in the struggle to establish Soviet power in Uzbekistan and in the Civil War in Uzbekistan; he then was engaged in administrative and managerial work. He became chairman of the Shark Iulduzi (Star of the East) cotton kolkhoz in Iangiiul’ Raion, Tashkent Oblast (now the Tursunkulov Kolkhoz).

Tursunkulov was a delegate to the Twentieth, Twenty-first, and Twenty-second Congresses of the CPSU and a deputy to the second through sixth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from 1958 to 1962. Tursunkulov was awarded six Orders of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals, including four medals of the Supreme Council of the National Economy. He is the author of the books 77ie Road Is Mastered by the Traveler (1959) and Pages of Life (1964).
