Kharlamova, Valentina Borisovna 

Born Feb. 23 (Mar. 8), 1911, in the stanitsa (large cossack village) of Uriupinskaia (now the city of Uriupinsk, Volgograd Oblast). Soviet actress. People’s Artist of the USSR (1959).

Kharlamova began her stage career in 1933. She appeared with the Gorky Theater, the Ioshkar-Ola Theater (Mari ASSR), and the Murom Theater. In 1937 she joined the Alma-Ata Russian Theater. Her roles have included Ophelia in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Larisa in A. Ostrovskii’s The Girl Without a Dowry, Ranevskaia in Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, the title roles in Trenev’s Liubov’ larovaia and De Filippo’s Filumena Marturano, and Zhustailok in Auezov’s Summer Lightning.

Kharlamova was a deputy to the fourth and sixth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR.
