Khashuri

Khashuri 

a city (since 1921) and the administrative center of Khashuri Raion, Georgian SSR. Highway junction and junction of rail lines to Tbilisi, Samtredia, and Vale. Population, 26,000 (1974). Industry includes enterprises connected with railroad transport, a factory producing glass containers, a machine shop, a cannery, and a meat-packing and dairy combine. Khashuri has a museum of local lore.

Georgian police on Friday retook control of and by Saturday afternoon there were no Russian checkpoints remaining on the east-west highway between Tbilisi and the central city of Khashuri.
But they remain in at least half of the country - including the central towns of Gori and Khashuri, the western cities of Senaki and Zugdidi, and the Black Sea port of Poti.
Troop deploymentKakha Lomaia, secretary of the Georgian security council, told the Reuters news agency that some of the Russian force in Gori had been redeployed to Khashuri and Akhalgori, effectively widening their presence in Georgia.
