Khilov, Konstantin L’vovich
Born Sept. 15 (27). 1893, in Kronstadt; died Dec. 21, 1975, in Leningrad. Soviet otorhino-laryngologist. Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1947). Khilov graduated from the Military Medical Academy in Petrograd in 1917. He headed the subdepartment of ear, nose, and throat diseases at the Second Leningrad Medical Institute from 1934 to 1957 and at the Military Medical Academy from 1957 to 1970. Khilov’s principal works dealt with aviation medicine, the morphology and physiology of the inner ear, and corrective surgery in cases of hearing damage. He proposed a number of diagnostic and microsurgical instruments. In 1964 he received a Lenin Prize for perfecting and popularizing operations to improve hearing in cases of otosclerosis. Khilov was an honorary member of the J. Purkinje Czechoslovak Medical Society and a recipient of the Purkinje Prize (1970, Great Gold Medal).
