Khitrov, Fedor Mikhailovich 

Born Feb. 8 (21), 1903, in Groznyi. Soviet surgeon. Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1971).

Khitrov graduated from the medical faculty of Northern Caucasus University. In 1941 he became head of the clinic of maxillary and facial surgery at the Central Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (since 1962, part of the Central Research Institute of Dentistry). Khitrov introduced methods of plastic surgery on the nose using tissue from other parts of the body and myoneural treatment of paralyzed tongues. He received the Lenin Prize in 1964 for his theoretical and practical substantiation of methods of rebuilding the pharynx, larynx, trachea, and esophagus. Khitrov received the Spasokukotskii Prize of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR in 1955 for his monograph The Plastic Replacement of Defects of the Face and Neck With Filatov’s Stem. He has also been awarded two orders and various medals.
