Khlopkin, Nikolai Sidorovich
Born Aug. 9, 1923, in the village of Il’inka, Petushki Raion, Moscow Oblast. Soviet nuclear power engineer. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976); Hero of Socialist Labor (1977). Member of the CPSU since 1945. After graduating from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1950, Khlopkin joined the staff of the I. V. Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy. He was an initiator of the use of nuclear power in the merchant marine. His main works deal with, for example, the thermal physics of nuclear reactors, biological shielding, and radiation safety. Khlopkin received the Lenin Prize in 1960 and has been awarded the Order of Lenin, four other orders, and various medals. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
