Khludov, Nikolai Gavrilovich 

Born Nov. 25 (Dec. 7), 1850, in Orel Province; died Apr. 23, 1935, in Alma-Ata. Soviet painter.

From 1872 to 1874, Khludov studied at the Odessa Drawing School. In 1877 he went to live in Vernyi (now Alma-Ata), where he taught drawing in secondary schools. In the Soviet period he played an important role in the professional training of the first Kazakh artists. Khludov painted scenes from the life of the Kazakh people. His works include Caught by the Storm (1896, Central Kazakhstan Museum, Alma-Ata), Milking Mares (1908, Central Kazakhstan Museum), and Boy on a Bull (1907, T. G. Shevchenko Kazakh Art Gallery, Alma-Ata).
