Khubsugul
a lake in the northern part of the Mongolian People’s Republic. Khubsugul is located in an ¡ntermontane tectonic basin that extends from north to south. The lake, covering an area of 2,620 sq km, measures 134 km in length and as much as 35 km in width. It is situated 1,645 m above sea level and reaches depths of 238 m. The river Egiin Gol (Selenga River basin) flows from Khubsugul. The lake is frozen from December to May. It is navigable and constitutes part of the transportation route from the USSR (Irkutsk Oblast) to Mongolia. There are docks at Khatgal in the south and Khankh in the north. The lake abounds in fish, in particular lenok and graylings. Phosphite deposits have been discovered near Khubsugul. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
