Khudiakov, Nikolai Nikolaevich
Born Dec. 4, 1866, in Kiev; died June 1, 1927, in Moscow. Soviet microbiologist and plant physiologist. Khudiakov graduated from the University of Leipzig in 1893. Beginning in 1894 he was a professor at the Moscow Agricultural Academy and at other institutions of higher learning. His principal works were on anaerobiosis in bacteria and soil microbiology. Khudiakov identified the levels of partial oxygen pressure that inhibited the development of anaerobes. He also discovered the adsorption of bacteria by soil particles. Khudiakov’s Agricultural Microbiology (1926) greatly influenced the development of microbiology in the USSR. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
