Khurramites

(also Khorram-dinan), the adherents of several sects opposed to Islam and the Caliphate that were active in Iran, Azerbaijan, and Middle Asia in the early period of Abbasid rule. The Khurramites, who subscribed to Mazdakism and advocated social equality, took part in the uprising of Abu Muslim of 747–750 and the Sumbad-mag uprising of 755. The Red Banners rebellion of 778–779, the Mukanna Uprising of the 770’s and 780’s, and the Babek Uprising of the ninth century were inspired by the Khurramites.
