Sarong

a national garment worn by men and women in Indonesia and Malaysia. Resembling a long skirt, the garment consists of a long piece of material wound around the lower half of the body from the waist to the ankles. Women sometimes wear a sarong so that its upper edge reaches the middle of the chest, tightly covering it. Sarongs are made of colored cotton; on the islands of Java and Bali, they are usually made of batik. Similar garments are common among some of the peoples of continental Southeast Asia and the Philippines.
