Kimonko, Dzhansi Batovich

    0.01 sec.
Kimonko, Dzhansi Batovich

Born December 1905 in the village of Gvasiugi, in present-day Khabarovsk Krai; died June 17, 1949, in Khabarovsk Krai. Soviet Udegei writer. Member of the CPSU (1946).

The son of a hunter, Kimonko was the founder of the first Udegei kolkhoz. After studying at the Institute of the Peoples of the North in Leningrad in 1934—36, he became chairman of a village soviet in his homeland. Kimonko’s novella Where the Sukpai Runs (published in 1950, posthumously), written in the form of a family chronicle, tells of the fate of the Udegei people —of its gloomy past and its new life in the Soviet period. Truthfully and subtly, he reveals the hunter’s life and spiritual growth. Where the Sukpai Runs has been translated into Russian and many foreign languages. Kimonko died while hunting.
