Gareth Anderson, 19, from Co Down, was taken by air ambulance to Kings College.
The land which is located in the town of Warwick in Orange County, New York, was zoned for residential and could have been sold to a developer, but The Kings College decided to sell the land to another school.
Andrew Lamb, director of BDA Scotland, said: 'The Sunday Mail investigation, like the Kings College report, shows there's a real problem in delivering NHS services, especially in rural areas.
