Kingsport, city (1990 pop. 36,365), Hawkins and Sullivan counties, NE Tenn., on the Holston River near the Va. line; inc. 1917. Industries include one of the largest printing and bookbinding plants in the United States. Chemicals, plastics, paper, concrete, and glass are also produced. The city, which is encircled by mountains, stands on the site of forts Robinson (1761) and Patrick Henry (1775) on the old Wilderness Road.
Kingsport a city in the southeastern USA, in Tennessee, situated in a valley in the Appalachian Mountains, on the South Holston River (Tennessee basin). Population, 32,000 (1970). One of the largest printing centers in the USA, the city also produces paper, chemicals, textiles (artificial and synthetic fabrics), and leather footwear. Food-processing is also important.
