Kirkcaldy (kərkô`dē, –kôl`–), town (1991 pop. 46,356) and district, Fife, E Scotland, on the Firth of Forth. Industries textiles and furniture manufacture and light electrical engineering. Its port engages in coastal trade. Several Flemish-style structures from the later Middle Ages rest near Kirkcaldy Harbor. The district comprises seven villages, including Dysart, strung along the shore, giving rise to the name "Lang Toun."
