Kirkland Lake, mining town, E Ont., Canada. An important gold-mining center, gold was discovered there in 1911 and again in the 1980s at Harker. | Tembec, Temiscaming, Quebec, Canada, said it will shut down its Kirkland Lake, Ontario, sawmill indefinitely as a result of weakness in the softwood lumber market and punitive countervailing and antidumping duties imposed by the United States. Assaying results from the Atikwa Lake property have been completed by Swastika Laboratories of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, using fire assay and atomic absorption techniques. The company currently holds several mining interests including an interest in the Thierry Mine located in the Pickle Lake area of northern Ontario, (the "Thierry Mine") and a gold property consisting of patented and staked claims in Grenfell Township, approximately 12 kms west of Kirkland Lake, Ontario (the "Kirkland Lake Property"). |
