Kirov Gulf
(Kyzylagach), a shallow inlet on the southwestern shore of the Caspian Sea, between Kura Spit on the east and the Sara Peninsula on the west. It is 28 km long. In the 1950’s, the gulf had an area of 550 sq km, but today it is much smaller. Its shores are low and marshy. In winter various waterfowl, including swans, geese, ducks, pelicans, and flamingos, migrate to the gulf. In 1929 it became part of the S. M. Kirov Kyzylagach Preserve.
