Kiuliavkov, Krum

Born Feb. 24, 1893, in Kiustendil; died Dec. 18, 1955, in Sofia. Bulgarian writer. Member of the Communist Party of Bulgaria (1918).

From 1919 to 1923, Kiuliavkov was one of the editors of the satirical journal Cherven smiak (Red Laughter; an organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party). From 1928 to 1940 he lived in the USSR as an émigré; after his return to Bulgaria, he took part in the illegal antifascist struggle. He wrote the collection of poems Raised Axes (1931) and the novel Turning Point (1935) about the September Antifascist Uprising of 1923.

After the establishment of popular democratic rule in 1944, Kiuliavkov worked as a critic and publicist (the collection Art and Politics, 1947) and a dramatist (the play The First Blow, 1952, and others).
