Kizil”iurt

a city in the Dagestan ASSR, located on the Sulak River. Railroad station on the Mineral’nye Vody-Gudermes-Makhachkala line, 60 km northwest of Makhachkala. The Chir”iurtov hydroelectric power plants are located in the city. Also there are the Dagelektroavtomat Plant; plants for the production of phosphate salts, gravel, and reinforced-concrete structures; and a house-prefabricating plant. There is a quarry for the extraction of crushed stone. Kizil”iurt was formed in 1963 out of the settlements of Kizil”iurt, Bavtugai, and Sulak.
