Knuth, Donald E. (Ervin) (1938–  ) computer science professor; born in Milwaukee, Wis. A professor of computer science and electrical engineering at Stanford University (1977), he also served as a consultant to Burroughs Corp. (1968–69). A National Academy of Sciences member, he specialized in algorithms, programming languages, digital typography, and history of computer science.
