Ko Pao-Chüan

Ko Pao-Ch’üan 

Born 1913, in Chiangsu Province. Chinese literary scholar and translator.

Ko Pao-ch’iian was born into the family of a provincial teacher; he was educated in Shanghai. He was a correspondent for the liberal-bourgeois opposition newspaper Takungpao in Moscow (1935–37). After the victorious Chinese revolution Ko Pao-ch’üan was deputy secretary-general of the Society of Soviet-Chinese Friendship. He wrote the books Talks About the Soviet Union and Outline of Soviet Literature, as well as articles on A. S. Pushkin, A. P. Chekhov, and M. Gorky. He translated into Chinese works by Pushkin, M. Iu. Lermontov, N. A. Nekrasov, V. V. Mayakovsky, M. Gorky, and M. V. Isakovskii.
