Koch curve [′kōk ‚kərv]
(mathematics)
A fractal which can be constructed by a recursive procedure; at each step of this procedure every straight segment of the curve is divided into three equal parts and the central piece is then replaced by two similar pieces.

If you were to continue the process by endlessly adding smaller and smaller triangles to every new side, you would produce a fractal object that mathematicians call the von Koch snowflake curve, named after a Swedish mathematician, Niels Fabian Helge von Koch.
Taking a mathematical approach, Lapidus and his colleagues have explored the characteristics of vibrations on membranes with truly fractal boundaries, concentrating on a particular fractal shape known as the Koch snowflake.
