Kodar
a mountain range of the Stanovoi Upland, located in Chita Oblast and extending into Irkutsk Oblast, RSFSR. The Kodar Range is a continuation of the Severo-Muia Range, stretching almost 200 km to the Tokko River. Maximum elevation, 3,000 m. It is made up of granite-gneiss and crystalline schist. Up to 1,500 m on the northern slopes and to 1,700 m on the southern slopes are deciduous forests and forests of stunted birch, with thickets of shrubbery (Japanese stone pine and scraggy birches) near the treeline. There is a high-mountain zone with alpine summits and mountain tundra. Névé basins and glaciers are found; the total area of the glaciers is approximately 15 sq km.
