Kohlberg, Jerome, Jr. (1925– ) lawyer, financier; born in New York City. He graduated from Swarthmore (Pa.) College in 1946 and took a law degree from Columbia University in 1950. He worked as an investment banker for Bear Stearns & Co., before becoming a partner in Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co. (1976–87), known as "the kings of the leveraged buyout." Their operations helped fuel the "go-go" atmosphere of American business that became synonymous with the Reagan years. He resigned in 1987 to establish an independent firm, Kohlberg & Co.
