Nedelkovski, Kole

Born Oct. 1, 1912, in Vojnica, near Veles; died Sept. 2, 1941, in Sofia. Macedonian poet.

The son of a peasant, Nedelkovski became a house painter. In 1933 he emigrated to Greece and later to Bulgaria. He took part in the antifascist movement. Nedelkovski began his literary career in 1938. His lyric poetry, for example, his collections Lightning (1940) and Traveling Through the World on Foot (1941), was written in the spirit of revolutionary romanticism; it glorified the Macedonians’ struggle for national liberation against the Turkish enslavers and praised the nationwide opposition to fascism. In his verse, Nedelkovski made use of images and rhythms from folk poetry.
