Kolki

    0.02 sec.
Kolki

an urban-type settlement in Manevichi Raion, Volyn’ Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Landing on the Styr’ River (a tributary of the Pripiat’), 26 km from the Manevichi railroad station on the Kovel’-Sarny line. There is a plant for drying vegetables and a bakery.

Kolki

small forests in the forest-steppe, formed of birch or aspen (rarely willow), typical of wet places. They are located primarily in watersheds, in flat, saucer-shaped lowlands and sinkholes. Characteristic of the forest-steppe of Western Siberia, kolki are also found in the Oka-Don Valley (aspen kolki). The vegetation is distributed annularly. In deep sinkholes there are three zones, with small swamps in the center, strips of dense aspen or birch woods with high grass on the slopes, and reed, reed-and-fern, or mixed-grass covering along the edge. In flat sinkholes there are usually two zones: swampy soils and solods predominate in the center, and gray wood soils, on the edges. In the spring the leaves open first on the peripheral trees; in the autumn the yellowing of leaves begins in the central zone. Kolki prevent erosion in fields. Plowing in these areas results in the soaking of crops.
