Kolmanovskii, Eduard Savel’evich 

Born Jan. 9, 1923, in Mogilev. Soviet composer. Honored Art Worker of the Buriat ASSR (1963).

In 1945, Kolmanovskii completed his training at the Moscow Conservatory, where he had studied composition under V. Ia. Shebalin. He wrote popular songs with the themes of civic spirit and patriotism, such as “Life, I Love You” (1958), “Do the Russians Want War” (1961), and “The Communards Will Not Be Slaves” (1967). Kolmanovskii also composed other types of songs, including the lyrical songs “We Will Wait for You” (1963), “Biriusinka” (1963), “A Waltz About a Waltz” (1964), and “The Young Crane” (1965). He was an eminent composer of music for the theater. He wrote the music for the fairy tale Snow White (1966, Moscow Children’s Musical Theater), Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night (1955, Moscow Art Theater), and several other productions. Kolmanovskii’s works include a concerto for alto and orchestra (1945), four suites for symphony orchestra (1945, 1948, 1950, 1956), scores for films, and art songs.
