Kolodkevich, Nikolai Nikolaevich 

Born July 10 (22), 1849, in Chernigov Province; died July 23 (Aug. 4), 1884, in St. Petersburg. Narodnik (Populist) revolutionary, member of the Executive Committee of People’s Will.

A member of the dvorianstvo (nobility or gentry), Kolodkevich was expelled from the University of Kiev in 1876 for his revolutionary activity. In June 1879 he took part in the Lipetsk and Voronezh congresses of the Narodniki. He joined the People’s Will faction. Kolodkevich planned attempts to assassinate Alexander II near Odessa in 1879 and in St. Petersburg in 1880. Aong with A. I. Zheliabov, he set up links between the Executive Committee of People’s Will and the fighting organization of the Narodniki. He was arrested in early 1881. In the Trial of the 20, in 1882, he was sentenced to death, but this was commuted to penal servitude for life. He died in the Aleksei Ravelin of Peter and Paul Fortress.
