Kolomasov, Vasilii Maksimovich 

Born Aug. 14 (27), 1909, in the village of Mordovskie Naimany, in present-day Bol’shie Berezniki Raion, Mordovian ASSR. Soviet Mordovian author.

Kolomasov was first published in 1931. He took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45. He is the author of the comedies Prokopych (published in 1940) and Mother of the Harvest (1946). He also wrote the novella Iakhim Lavginov (1936). He subsequently developed the story of this novella into his main work, the novel Lavginov (1941–56; Russian translation, 1959), which takes place in the Mordovian countryside during the period of collectivization. Kolomasov has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and a number of medals.
