Kolosov, Aleksei Ivanovich
Born Dec. 11 (23), 1897, in the city of Ardatov, in the present-day Mordovian ASSR; died Dec. 18, 1956, in Moscow. Soviet Russian writer and journalist. Kolosov was first published in 1917. During the Civil War of 1918–20, he did political work in the Red Army. From 1928 to 1956 he was a special correspondent for Pravda, which published his stories and essays about the socialist transformation of the countryside. He also wrote books that were published separately, including In the Sal’ Steppe (Renewed Steppe, 1949), The New Field (1951), and How the Steppe Flourished (published 1957).
