Posse, Konstantin Aleksandrovich
Born Oct. 16 (28), 1847, in the village of Petrovskoe, now in Novgorod Oblast; died Aug. 24, 1928, in Leningrad. Russian mathematician. Honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1916). Posse graduated from the University of St. Petersburg in 1868 and was appointed a professor there in 1883. He also taught in numerous other educational institutions in St. Petersburg. His chief works dealt with mathematical analysis, in particular with orthogonal functions and the approximate calculation of definite integrals. His textbook on the differential and integral calculus was widely used throughout Russia for a quarter of a century. WORKSK voprosu o predel’nykh znacheniiakh integralov ili summ.
