Stepankov, Konstantin Petrovich 

Born June 3, 1928, in the settlement of Pecheski, Khmel’nitskii Raion, Khmel’-nitskii Oblast. Soviet Ukrainian actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1977).

Stepankov graduated from the Karpenko-Karyi Kiev Institute of Theatrical Art. He became a member of the company of the Ivan Franko Ukrainian Drama Theater in 1954. In 1968, he joined the A. P. Dovzhenko Kiev Studio. Stepankov’s stage roles have included Edgar in Shakespeare’s King Lear, Di Santos in Gutzkow’s Uriel Acosta, and Andre Perotskii in Kulish’s Sonata Pathetique. In 1957 he made his motion picture debut in Pavel Korchagin, in which he played the role of Anin, secretary of the Kiev Provincial Committee. His film roles have also included Lobachev in The Commissars, Tugar Volk in Zakhar Berkut, Zhukhrai in How the Steel Was Tempered, and Kovpak in the trilogy Tale of Kovpak.

In 1953, Stepankov became a teacher in the acting department at the Kiev Institute of Theatrical Art.
