Konstantin Vasilevich Gradopolov

Gradopolov, Konstantin Vasil’evich 

Born Dec. 23, 1903 (Jan. 5, 1904), in Moscow. Soviet athlete, teacher, and Honored Master of Sport (1940). Honored Coach of the USSR (1956). Became a member of the CPSU in 1954.

Gradopolov was one of the first champions of the Soviet Union in boxing (1926), and he won many international and all-Union competitions. From 1936 to 1966 he headed the department of boxing of the State Central Institute of Physical Education. From 1954 to 1960 he was the coach of the combined boxing team of the USSR. He is the author of The Training of a Boxer (1960) and Boxing (4th ed., 1965). He has appeared in films (13 films from 1927 to 1940). He has been awarded two orders, as well as medals.
