Voblyi, Konstantin Grigor’evich 

Born May 27, 1876, in Tsarichanka, in present-day Dnepropetrovsk Oblast; died Sept. 12, 1947, in Kiev. Soviet economist, statistician, economic geographer, doctor of political economy and statistics (1911), academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1919), and from 1928 to 1930 vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. Taught at the University of Kiev and the Kiev Commercial Institute (later Kiev Institute of the National Economy).

Voblyi investigated problems of development in the economic geography of the industry of Poland and the Ukraine, as well as the migration of population, internal and foreign trade, the economics of insurance, and other topics. He wrote works analyzing the professional-production census of Germany for 1907 and analyzing the economics of the sugar industry; and he was the author of textbooks on statistics and economic geography. He was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
