On the central-northern border of MN; established Dec 19, 1906 from Itasca County. Name Origin: Origin uncertain, but evidence points to a Cree Indian word meaning 'rainy lake,' descriptive of the mists from the nearby International Falls on Rainy River.

Area (sq mi): 3154.32 (land 3102.36; water 51.96). Pop per sq mi: 4.50.
Pop 2005: 13,907. State rank: 59. Pop change: 2000-20005 -3.10%; 1990-2000 -11.90%. Pop 2000: 14,355 (White 95.70%; Black or African American 0.20%; Hispanic or Latino 0.60%; Asian 0.20%; Other 3.60%). Foreign born: 5.90%. Median age: 41.50.
Income 2000: per capita $19,167; median household $36,262; Pop below poverty level: 12.10%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $24,491-$27,706.
Unemployment 2004: 6.20%. Change from 2000: 0.10%. Median travel time to work: 15.50 minutes. Working outside county of residence: 7.40%.

Koochiching County Little Fork 17 1244CST Shingles were blown off the roof of a house.
CHeibel Consulting LLC (CH Consulting), a new Minnesota-based sales and marketing consulting business that provides strategies, implementation and support to clients, will soon be moving its current consulting team to International Falls as part of a joint venture with the Koochiching County Economic Development Authority (KEDA).
