a city in Czechoslovakia, in the Czech Socialist Republic, in the region of North Moravia. Population, 11,300 (1971). Kopřivnice is an industrial center near Ostrava. Its industry includes the large Tatra automobile plant, which manufactures mainly heavy trucks.

Zatopek, born in 1922 in Koprivnice in Czechoslovakia, won 261 of his 334 races at all distances, including his first 38 10,000m races.
The company has three technical and training offices in Prague, Brno and Koprivnice, as well as two joint facilities with machine makers Mikron Group and Profika in Slovakia.
In his whole career Zatopek, born in 1922 in Koprivnice in then Czechoslovakia, won 261 of his 334 races at all distances.
