Korányi, Sándor
Born July 18, 1866, in Budapest; died there Apr. 12, 1944. Hungarian internist; member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1935). After graduating from the University of Budapest in 1889, Korányi became a professor at the university and the founder of the functional school of Hungarian clinical medicine. He made a significant contribution to the study of problems of disturbances of circulation, metabolism, and blood diseases. He elaborated the concept of renal insufficiency and developed methods for the functional diagnosis of the kidneys. He applied the achievements of physical chemistry to medicine extensively. Korányi was awarded honorary doctorates by the universities of Wroclaw, Lyon, and Athens. WORKSPhysikalische Chemie und Medizin, vols. 1–2.
