Korkiia, Otar Mikhailovich
Born May 10, 1923, in Kutaisi. Soviet sportsman; Honored Master of Sport (1951) and Honored Coach (1967). Became a member of the CPSU in 1953. In the 1940’s and 1950’s, Korkiia was one of the leading players on the USSR national basketball team. He was champion of Europe in 1947, 1951, and 1953 and of the USSR in 1950-51 and 1953, as well as an Olympic prize winner (silver medal, Helsinki, 1952).
