Zelinskii, Kornelii Liutsianovich

Born Jan. 6 (18), 1896, in Moscow; died there Feb. 25, 1970. Soviet literary scholar and critic, doctor of philological sciences (1964).

Zelinskii graduated from Moscow University in 1918 and began publishing immediately thereafter. One of the organizers and theoreticians of the constructivist group, he later criticized this movement (the article “The End of Constructivism,” 1930). From 1948 to 1969, with interruptions, he was a senior research associate at the M. Gorky Institute of World Literature. Zelinskii’s work deals with topics in both Soviet and foreign literatures. He did much for the study of the literatures of the peoples of the USSR. In 1960 he published On the Border of Two Epochs: Literary Meetings of 1917–20.
