Korotkov, Sergei Ksenofontovich 

Born Oct. 12 (25), 1908, in the village of Kol’tsovka, in present-day Vurnary Raion, Chuvash ASSR; died there July 3, 1961. Kolkhoz production innovator, chairman of the V. I. Lenin Kolkhoz in Vurnary Raion (1945-61), twice Hero of Socialist Labor (1948, 1961). Became a member of the CPSU in 1936.

In 1928-29, Korotkov served as chairman of the Kol’tsovka rural soviet, and in 1929-37 and 1940-41 he was chairman of the kolkhoz of the town of Kol’tsovka. In 1937-38 he served as deputy chairman of the Chuvash Central Executive Committee and people’s commissar of agriculture of the Chuvash ASSR. In 1941-42 he was deputy chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Chuvash ASSR, and in 1942-45 he was first secretary of the Vurnary raion committee of the ACP (Bolshevik) of the Chuvash ASSR. Under Korotkov’s leadership the kolkhoz always had high yields of grain crops and pea and bean crops; the kolkhoz was the leading farm in the republic.

Korotkov was a deputy to the first and the third through fifth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He was a delegate to the Nineteenth, Twentieth, and Twenty-first Congresses of the CPSU as well as a delegate to the Eighth Extraordinary Congress of soviets (1936) and the second congress of kolkhoz shock workers (1936). He was awarded four Orders of Lenin, four other orders, and medals, including medals of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition and the Exhibition of the Achievements of the National Economy of the USSR.
