Korovin, Evgenii Petrovich
Born Feb. 13 (25), 1891, in Moscow; died there Dec. 1, 1963. Soviet botanist; academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR (1947). Korovin graduated from Moscow University in 1917. He worked in Tashkent beginning in 1920 and participated in the establishment of the Middle Asian University, where he became a professor in 1932. He was director of the Institute of Botany and Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR from 1943 to 1948 and of the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR from 1950 to 1952. Korovin devoted his research to the flora of Middle Asia. He described more than 100 new species and eight genera of plants of the families Umbelliferae, Chenopodiaceae, and Polygonaceae. He compiled a geobotanical map of Middle Asia and charted its botanical regions. He studied the problems of the agricultural reclamation of arid territories. Korovin was awarded the V. L.
