Korsun, Nikolai Georgievich
Born Dec. 27, 1876 (Jan. 8, 1877); died Nov. 14, 1958, in Moscow. Soviet military historian; lieutenant general (1940). Korsun graduated from the Konstantin Artillery School in 1897 and from the General Staff Academy in 1905. In World War I (1914-18) he served at the headquarters of the supreme commander in chief (from May 1915 to September 1916), commanded a cossack regiment (until August 1917), then served at Main Headquarters and in the Main Directorate of the General Staff, and was promoted to major general (in 1917). After joining the Red Army in 1918, Korsun served at the All-Russian Main Headquarters and on the staff of the First Army on the Eastern Front. From 1922 to 1954 he did scholarly work and taught at the M. V. Frunze Military Academy; he retired in 1954.
