Kosárek, Adolf
Born Jan. 6, 1830, in Herálec, died Oct. 29, 1859, in Prague. Czech artist, one of the founders of the 19th-century national school of realist landscape painting. Kosárek studied at the Prague Academy of Arts from 1850 to 1855. He gradually abandoned idealized, romantic landscapes for landscapes based on the direct observation of nature. He portrayed the distinctive features of the landscapes of Bohemia and Moravia. Kosarek’s works are noted for their simple motifs and poetic re-creation of the seasonal changes in nature (Summer Landscape, 1859, National Gallery, Prague). REFERENCESToman, P. A.
