Kostousov, Anatolii Ivanovich 

Born Oct. 6 (19), 1906, in the village of Nofrinskoe, in present-day Pervomai Raion, Yaroslavl Oblast. Soviet government figure. Became a member of the CPSU in 1925. The son of a peasant.

Kostousov began work in 1923 as the head of a section of a district committee of the Russian Communist League of Youth in the city of Poshekhon’e (now Volodarsk). He graduated from the Moscow Machine-Tool Institute in 1933 and worked in machine-tool construction plants in Leningrad, Krasnodar, and Novosibirsk from 1933 to 1946 as an engineer, shop superintendent, production chief, chief engineer, and deputy director. He was deputy minister of machine-tool construction of the USSR from 1946 to 1949 and minister of machine-tool construction from 1949 to 1953.

Kostousov was deputy minister of machine-building of the USSR in 1953–54, chairman of the Moscow regional council of the national economy from 1957 to 1959, and chairman of the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on Automation and Machine Building. A minister of the USSR from 1959 to 1963, he then was chairman of the State Committee on Machine Building under Gosplan (State Planning Committee) of the USSR, a ministerial post, until 1965. From 1954 to 1957 and after 1965 he was minister of the machine-tool construction and tool-making industry of the USSR. He became a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1952 and a member in 1961. He was a deputy to the fifth through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and medals.
