Kostroma State Regional Electric Power Plant 

one of the largest steam power plants in the USSR.It is located near the city of Kostroma. The first stage of the power plant has a capacity of 1,200 megawatts (1.2 million kilowatts)—four power units, each with 300 megawatt turbosets— and was placed in operation in 1970. The second stage (four 300-megawatt power units) was completed in 1973. An increase in the capacity of the power plant to 4,800 megawatts with the installation of two 1,200-megawatt power units is planned. The main fuels are natural gas and mazut. The industrial water-supply system is of the direct-flow type.
