Kotliarevskii, Petr Stepanovich
Born June 12 (23), 1782, in the village of OPkhovatka, Kupiansk District, Kharkov Province; died Oct. 21 (Nov. 2), 1852, near Feodosiia. Russian military figure; general of the infantry (1826). Son of a priest. Kotliarevskii was trained in an infantry regiment in Mozdok and promoted as an officer in 1799. He rose in the ranks during the war between Russia and Iran of 1804–13, in which he distinguished himself through bravery and resoluteness. In 1810, Kotliarevskii captured the Migri fortress, withstood a siege, and then defeated the Iranian troops on the Araks River. On Oct. 19–20, 1812, Kotliarevskii defeated Abbas Mirza’s superior forces at Aslanduz, and on Jan. 1, 1813, he took Lenkoran’ by storm with a detachment of 2,000 men, which was the deciding factor in the course of the war.
