Krasauskas, Stasis Algirdo

    0.01 sec.
Krasauskas, Stasis Al’girdo

Born June 1, 1929, in Kaunas. Soviet graphic artist. Honored Art Worker of the Lithuanian SSR (1968).

From 1952 to 1958, Krasauskas studied at the Art Institute of the Lithuanian SSR in Vilnius; he has been teaching there since 1961. His works include small-scale engravings and illustrations. Krasauskas’ best works are distinguished by a poetic quality, the associative and metaphorical arrangement of images, and the effectively expressive use of white lines against a black background. Among his works are the line engraving Youth (1961), the monotype Mother (1964), and the etching Woman (1972). He has also illustrated Marcinkevidius’ Blood and Ashes (woodcut, 1960), Miezelaitis’ Man (woodcut, 1961–62), Shakespeare’s Sonnets (zinc engraving, 1966), Marcinkevi&us’ narrative poem The Wall (zinc engraving, 1969), and Mayakovsky’s narrative poem Vladimir IVich Lenin (published in 1970).

In 1965, Krasauskas was awarded the State Prize of the Lithuanian SSR for his illustrations of Blood and Ashes and Man. He has also been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
