The Krazy Kat comic strip ran in American newspapers from 1913-1944; this volume reprints the full-page Sunday comics from 1937-1938. Krazy Ignatz is the sixth volume of the Krazy Kat reprint series--but it's the first volume to appear in full color, representing the comic strip's color appearance in June 1935 after being a black-and-white Sunday strip. Chief among these was Ware, whose work references a veritable history of comics, from George Herriman's '30s icon Krazy Kat to the cheesy ads in '60s comics, while maintaining a distinctive tone. |
